Dance

Since the establishment of Gracemount’s Dance Academy in 2007, the dance programme has gone from strength to strength.

This year, we have a total of 91 dancers involved in the academy, both within the curriculum and through wider achievement opportunities and extra-curricular classes.

The dance curriculum provides opportunities for every year group, with our most popular progression route outlined below:

  • S1 – School of Dance
  • S2 – School of Dance
  • S3 – NPA Level 4 Dance
  • S4 – NPA Level 5 Dance/ National 5 Dance
  • S5/6 – Higher Dance
  • S6 – Dance Leadership

Curriculum classes provide pupils with the chance to develop and nurture their talents in a range of dance styles including Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Commercial, Lyrical, Hip-hop, Musical Theatre and Rock and Roll. Lessons also focus on developing creativity through choreography tasks and workshops.

All dancers are strongly encouraged to develop their own choreographic flair and individuality.

Our thriving after school dance classes offer a chance to build on skills developed within the curriculum in a fun and relaxed environment. These are led by a combination of external dance teachers and dance leaders  One of the main aims of the academy is to promote wider achievement through the annual dance show, involvement in festivals, excursions and citywide competitions. During their time at GHS, dancers have the chance to visit London. Here, they see a West End Show, attend the world famous Move It Dance Convention and see attractions like the London Eye.

Display boards within the department and regular social media updates are also used to celebrate pupils work and promote success.

Pupils are also given the opportunity to develop their inter personal skills including communication, leadership, teamwork and confidence.
